Wish I could say it was because of writing…

April 30, 2008

…that I’ve been so scarce. Nope, unfortunately it’s not. It’s hormones, hormones, and more hormones.

I’ve finished 7 months of this pregnancy, and I was SO productive during the second trimester! I worked pretty much every day at getting SOME wordage in, in the midst of editing and work deadlines, and did pretty well.

Now, not so much. My hormones have TAKEN CONTROL! I had no desire to do anything but plop myself in front of the TV and cry for about a month. Didn’t want to write, or edit, or pretty much do anything at all!

I’m working on getting myself back to somewhat of a normal schedule, as I have books due for editing, which I HAVE to do. I can feel the excitement about my own book creeping back in, so I hope in the near future I’ll have the time and energy to write again.

So, I haven’t been to the blog much, because I haven’t had much to say. *shrug* But I am still here, I am still alive, despite how it may have seemed! ๐Ÿ˜›

Da pain, da pain…

March 5, 2008

Ok, so didn’t anyone see The Three Musketeers? Chevy Chase? Anyway…

I haven’t done too well on my word count since last count, lol. I had lofty goals to write in the evenings after work, but I’ve found that baby is making me tired again. Brain doesn’t seem to work after 6:30pm, sigh.

And today I’m having back issues. Lower back is KILLING me, and there’s a muscle in my leg that keeps spasming. Yay for me.

I have hope I’ll get back into this story, that I’ll get more energy, and that da pain will go away. So think good thoughts!

Happy Valentine’s Day! And other such blather…

February 14, 2008

Hubby and I don’t actually celebrate this day, and I’m very thankful for it. It’s enough for me to have to think about what to get him for our quasi-anniversary in March, his birthday in May, our wedding anniversary in September, and then Christmas. Add another day to it? I think not.

Yesterday royally sucked. After getting 4 inches of snow overnight on Tuesday night, we woke up to sleet. Ok, not so bad. But then it POURED POURED POURED all day, until everything was absolutely flooded. I had one of those moments on the way home where I was watching the cars in front of me to see if they made it across this sudden LAKE in the middle of the road. Since there were other smaller cars chancing it (I have a Corolla, so I watch those little cars), I decided to chance it myself. I managed to get across, praying the whole time that I would make it. I didn’t want to be one of “those” people who are idiotic enough to cross a lake with their car. Plus, since I’m pregnant, I didn’t want to get stuck in freezing water!

In other news, I cannot WAIT until April 1st! Why? It means the online party I’m planning for Whiskey Creek Press will be over! LOL. I have so many excited authors participating in the party, but it’s SO much work to plan it all, and I’m doing it on my own. I’ll have to see if it’s worth it on April 1st. ๐Ÿ˜›

I’ve also decided to join up for another round of the 70 Day of Sweat. The first round went REALLY well, and though I joined the second round, I petered out after only two weeks because work got crazy and well, I got pregnant, lol. The fatigue that accompanied the first trimester made it hard to even get through the day, much less add anything additional to it. But I REALLY want to finish this book before baby comes to get it sent out to agents, so I need a big motivator to do it.

So, that’s what I’m up to. No TT today, as I’m completely out of ideas for it. But what are you all up to? What’s on your plate this Valentine’s Day?

Thirteen Updates
1. Didja see the header? Hmm? Hint on what I’ve had for four months…
2. Work gets crazy in January, then dies at the end of January to NOTHING. But right now I’m dying for that nothing…
3. I’ve been nominated at Preditors and Editors! Check me out as Kate Scott. As, well, that’s who I am!
4. Beth Kery’s Tricked Truths came out this month!
5. I received these little booties for Christmas…
6. I haven’t written much, as usual. I’m planning on getting back to that at the end of January.
7. Marissa updated the blog! Do you like the new wintery look?
8. I. Can’t. Wait. Til. Spring. I’m tired of snow, though the past few days have been so warm. Such a tease!
9. I recently read Anya Bast’s Witch Fire and LOVED IT. I would totally recommend it. I also read Lauren Dane’s To Do List from Samhain, and it’s such a cute holiday story! Yes, the holidays are over, but the cute stories remain!
10. I’ve gotten deeply engrossed in HGTV, but find I can no longer watch A Baby Story on TLC.
11. Despite number 9, I don’t have any time to read for pleasure, lol.
12.ย  Did everyone see Chuck Norris behind Mike Huckabee? His head was so much larger…
13. The stork came!

Days like these…

December 4, 2007

It’s days like these where I wondered why I ever started a blog, lol. Marissa has done FAR more posting than I have, which I generally take advantage of since I don’t have time.

What have I been up to? Some secret stuff, not a lot of writing, tons and tons of editing and newsletter stuff and whatnot, and more. I performed in my church’s annual Christmas concert on Sunday night, which was a blast, but BOY am I glad it’s over! It was a lot of rehearsals and time that I just didn’t have, but had to find. Dress rehearsal was about four hours Saturday morning, and the concerts were at 3pm and 7pm on Sunday.

Saturday late afternoon the Stud and I went to a new place to get a Christmas tree. Normally we go to a tree farm and get the tree cut down right in front of us, but their selection was small this year, and they also charge $10 a foot. Yes, that means for a 7-7.5-foot tree, we paid about $70-$75. This year we decided to go somewhere else, and ended up finding the perfect tree (already cut), and it only cost $32! Whoa! Now I see how the rest of the world has been living! LOL. Since Stud and I have been actively trying to cut down expenses, this helped immensely.

Now, I must venture back into the world of editing to get these edits to my very patient author. But what have you all been up to? What do your holiday preparations look like? Do you get a Christmas tree? Have a pre-lit fake one? Decorate in Hanukkah finery? Squeal like a little girl as I do when your favorite holiday song comes on the radio? ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope everything’s going well for everyone, and I promise that come the New Year, I will be more active on this blog! Well, I will attempt to be! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bad blogger

October 28, 2007

Yes, that’s what I am. A very bad blogger. Really, I try to get at least one post in a week, but can’t always remember to do so.

It’s been even harder this week. Why?

Red Sox are in the World Series! Woot!

Of course I stay up to watch, right? That’s why I have no time? Well, no. In all honesty I’ve been going to bed around 9:30pm. Work is crazy right now, editing is crazy, other things are happening, so I’m just beat.

But the excitement of the Sox in the WS also saps my energy. It feels like it was just 2004, when we hoped upon hope we’d make it to the WS, and prayed and prayed and PRAYED that the curse would break and we’d win.

And we DID.

So now we hope it happens again, show that the other win wasn’t a fluke. That my man Jason Varitek will do his El Capitan shtuff and pull us through.

Writing hasn’t happened much. But I’m DETERMINED to get something in this week. Something to show Sven I am doing it!

How has writing been going for you all? Lots of good stuff? Re-writes? Rough drafts?

I’m back!

October 18, 2007

I’ll admit, I’ve been a serious slacker on this blog, and I apologize. Life is really kicking my bottom! The day job is getting crazier, editing has picked up like crazy, and all the other things I do for Whiskey Creek Press just keep escalating. I’ve started working with a personal trainer at the gym to keep motivated and get in shape, so that’s pretty much every day (but lord, the energy I have now!). I’ve driven down south two weekends in a row (ugh), and have various family outings and activities pretty much every weekend until January.

So, what have I done now? I’ve joined the 70 Days of Sweat again. *smacks forehead* What am I thinking? I don’t have time to write!

And that is why I joined! Because I need to make time to write! I haven’t touched my MS in like two months, one because I was having that mental dilemma over erotic vs. hot (I decided to stay with erotic for now), but also because I have so much going on in the fall.

ย Well, NO EXCUSES anymore for me! I will write, and I will make time for it! If I need Ms. Lauren Dane pinging me all the time since she’s now a cool sponsor and all to keep me motivated, ok! If I need to kick Marissa’s butt so she’ll kick mine and we can keep ourselves on track, ok!

So watch out, Sven, because although I have no time this week, this weekend starts it all for me again!

Oh, and as a side note, CONGRATULATIONS to one of my WCPT authors, Beth Kery, for signing with the Bradford Literary Agency! Laura is Marissa’s (and many other noteworthy authors’) agent, and she got another gem when she signed you! While I know it means fewer works with WCP, I can’t wait to see you in the big time! Woot!

When Katie Met Lori…

October 4, 2007

Okay, so I stole Lori’s line from here. It used to be one of my favorite movies, after all. And if you look at the hair color in Lori’s pic, I’m obviously Billy Crystal, and I loved him in City Slickers, so I’m okay with that. Lori can be Meg Ryan. (Lord, it’s been a LOOOONG week.)

So, okay, it wasn’t the first time Lori and I had met. We met long, long ago (about 15 months to be exact) at the Lori Foster event in June. Where I told her she was blonder and skinnier than I thought she was going to be. This time she was less blonde but just as skinny. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not surprisingly, we talked about books. Lots of books. Oh, first I got us lost in the city. Yes, I had been to the restaurant before. Yes, I’d driven through that part of the city before. And yes, I still managed to get lost. Going home, too.

So, books. We gabbed (*snicker*) about how Anne was looking for more Scottish romances, and I said well of course she finally read Julie Garwood and LOVED it, and *gasp* Lori said she’d never read them. OMG. I told her she’d be reading them very soon, lol. She recommend an author to me that I can’t remember now, but I’ll make sure to check her out once I figure out who she was.

We talked about how Lauren Dane brought her over to the “dark side” (aka paranormal romances) and how we love her to pieces, and how I can’t wait for Kresley Cole’s new book to come out (OCTOBER 30!!!!), which Lori won’t read because although she’ll read Lauren’s paranormals, she’s still not a fan of the genre. But I heart Kresley Cole, so I can’t wait.

Let’s see. Oh, yes. The Red Sox beat the Angels of Anaheim at LA, or wait, the LA Anaheim Angels, or perhaps the LA Angels of Anaheim, 4-0. And the Yankees lost 12-3 tonight! Woot!!! On the way to the World Series…

So, last night was relaxing, fun, and really just good to see Lori who lives on the other side of the country, and who was excited to see the foliage that isn’t really there because it’s been too warm. But I’m still impressed that in ONE DAY Lori went beaching AND skiing. Can’t quite do that in New England!

And now it’s off to bed, as it’s been a VERY long week and I’m obviously rambling now. Sorry there was no TT today – perhaps next week. We’ll see. I’ll be offline this weekend as I’m driving my little sister and all her stuff down to her new apartment in VA. Sigh. 9.5 hours in a cargo van, here we go.

The One Where Kate Comes Up For Air

October 2, 2007

Oh, I miss Friends.

So, dear lord, life has been crazy. Yesterday was the first of the month, which meant new releases were out at Whiskey Creek Press and Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. Wheeee! None of my authors had books release this month, so I didn’t have anything extra (thank freakin’ god), but I was still busy.

My father had heart surgery Friday to get a pacemaker. The lead fell out – they had to reopen him and fix it. Sewed him all back up all nice-like, then the lead fell out again. So Monday they had to open him AGAIN and fix it. Woo.

Meanwhile hubby and I thought it would be SO NICE if we fixed up my parents’ bathroom while Dad was in the hospital! Think house built in the 70’s which has NEVER been updated (including nice bright orange carpet – which is now a brown/orange carpet). This means big plumbing issues. BIG. And hubby is not a plumber. So he fixed it all up real nice – and another leak started. It rains in their basement when the shower’s on now. Previously it was apparently only raining in the wall. Not good, but undetectable to the naked eye.

So, it was a crazy, crazy weekend followed by a crazy first two days of the month.

And now I can breathe. And wonder why no one reminded me that I had a contest running! Geez Louise! I’ll have to go back to the post after this and pick a winner! Woot!

And tomorrow I get to see Lori! Yay! She’s on a business trip in Boston, so we’re doing dinner and drinks tomorrow night. I haven’t seen her since the Lori Foster event two years ago! About time for a reunion, I’d say. ๐Ÿ™‚

What have you all been up to? Been pretty silent for a while, from what I can tell from not checking. ๐Ÿ˜›

Thursday Thirteen

September 12, 2007

Well, Marissa and I have been busy, busy bees lately, so we haven’t have the time to talk much. So we thought a nice TT about each other would be just the ticket. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thirteen Things We Love About Each Other

1. Kate: I love that Marissa always knows how to fix Blogger issues.

2. Marissa: I love that Kate likes how my mind works… warped and weird as it is. ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Kate: I love that Marissa loves my characters as much as I do. ๐Ÿ˜›

4. Marissa: I love Kate’s kind and generous nature.

5. Kate: I love that Maris finds solace in a good book. And sheiks.

6. Marissa: I love that Kate likes my writing and supports me no matter what… even if I were to write a sheik book.

7. Kate: I love that Marissa loves people so much and always puts them first. But I would love to see her put herself first more. Because she’s worth it.

8. Marissa: I love that when we chat Kate understands all my abbreviations when most people wouldn’t. She so gets me!

9. Kate: I love that Marissa pushes me through my writing boundaries, and I strive to be able to do the same for her.

10. Marissa: I love that Kate likes my characters, especially one really hot, sexy sheriff that is dedicated to her. ๐Ÿ˜‰

11. Kate: I love that Marissa put me in her book! Woot! To honor her, I put her in my first novel (as yet unfinished), but only a few knowing people will recognize her…

12. Marissa: I love that Kate is always there for me and always feel comfortable talking to me about anything and everything in her life as well. True sisterhood.

13. Kate and Marissa: And to end this completely cheese-filled post, we’d like to thank all our BLOG READERS! Woot! We know there are only a few of you, but we appreciate that you take the time to read about our boring, boring lives, lol. *hugs*
