Ann Aguirre’s Grimspace Contest!!!

January 29, 2008

The fabulous Ann Aguirre has some contests going on. Go! Get your name entered! You don’t want to miss your chance to win an ARC of Grimspace!

There’s one on Dear Author. They’re giving away 20 advanced reader copies of Grimspace which comes out on February 26th. All you have to do is read the review and comment, and you’re entered into the drawing. How simple is that?

There’s another contest over on Ann’s blog. Here’s the info for that one.

Prize packages

  • Grand Prize: $100 gift card from Barnes and Noble
  • First runner up: $50 gift certificate from Amazon
  • Second runner up: a handcrafted Mexican necklace
  • Third runner up: $25 gift card (or egift card) from Bath & Body Works
  • Fourth runner up: Signed copy of Grimspace

Five winners. Big prizes. What do you have to do to get in on this?

Rules for entry for people with a blog:

  • Step 1: Take the quiz, and then copy the code from MY blog at the top of your post. Grimspace Contest Code. Please don’t use the code that comes from Quiz Soup. It’s rather generic.
  • Step 2: Post your results from the quiz in your blog entry. This can be as simple as typing “I got (blank).” You don’t have to copy the whole description, but you can if you want.
  • Step 3: Add something like “Check out the prizes on Ann’s blog” along with a link here. Publish blog post!
  • Step 4: Leave your link in comments, letting me know you’re done.

For those who don’t have blogs, here’s what you do to enter:

  • Step 1: Take the quiz and post your results in comments.
  • Step 2: Tell at least one other person about the contest.

Feel free to ask any questions in comments. Please note, since the contest prizes are sizable, I do expect you to adhere to the rules. If you don’t, I simply won’t count your entry, so it might be worth your time to double-check. This post will be sticky until Grimspace releases on February 26 and I announce the winners. Anything new I feel like posting will show up beneath this line.

Tuesday, January 29

I’m adding to the post as I said I would. Michele Lee asked if I had any banners. As it happens, I do. So I’m gonna throw them up here. Feel free to snag them and use them as you see fit. Design credit goes to Bettie Sharpe for the first two. I made the third one myself. It’s okay to like hers better. Design is really not my thing.

Contest- Part 3

January 8, 2008

I had a hard time choosing from all of your suggestions from Part 2, so I ended up drawing a name from a hat. You all so rock! And for Part 3, I used a bit of each of your ideas.

The winner from Part 2 is…. JSL! Email me your snail mail address and preferences as to whether you like Harlequin Temptation, Harlequin Blaze, Silhouette Desire, or Silhouette Special Edition, at Marissa @ (no spaces) and I’ll grab TWO books from my shelf and get them out to you. Thanks for participating!!!

You can find part one here and part two here.

Dim light filtered through the blinds as they entered the bedroom. It was so girly, all pink, lacy, so Lisa. He loved her femininity and at times he had even imagined them in this very situation, well, not exactly this situation, but one where he led her to the bedroom, kissed her, touched her, tasted her, and now he was going to get that chance. Only it was to enhance her sexual experience so she could be perfect in bed for another guy. Oh, the thought of it made his stomach turn.

A new thought popped into his mind and he grinned. What if he made Lisa’s experience so good she didn’t want to be with anyone else but him? The thought had promise, now he had to put it into play.

Without pretense, barely giving her a chance to gasp, he turned and pulled her body flush against his. He just held her there for a minute, staring into her eyes, enjoying the look of surprise he saw there, then slowly he lowered his head until his lips lightly touched hers. He feathered them across hers once, twice, before pressing them more firmly against hers. He swept her lower lip with his tongue, Lisa gasped, and that was all the opening he needed.

He brushed his tongue against hers tentatively, savoring the minty taste of her, then she shyly returned the gesture. That timidity was nearly his undoing, his body was on fire, aroused beyond belief, and all for his best friend. Never, ever had he felt so close to ravishing a woman, ripping off her clothes and taking her against the wall, so totally out of control with just a kiss.

He was driving her crazy. What was up with the hesitancy? She knew he was aroused, she could feel his erection pressing into her belly. She wanted more, she needed more. She wanted him to touch her breasts, kiss her neck, and because he was doing none of those things she wanted to rub herself against him like a cat in heat.

Lord, the man could kiss. When his hands left her back and slid up to cup her face, the tenderness in the gesture, that was exactly why she loved him. She didn’t want Jason, she never did. She only wanted Erik. It had always been Erik and now it was time to show him how she felt.

Lisa leaned in and rubbed her breasts against him, and then Erik’s beeper went off. Damn it!

He pulled back, then pressed a quick kiss to her lips before unclipping the beeper from his belt. “It’s the hospital.”

Of course. He was on call, she should have remembered. “You know where the phone is. I’m going to get some water.”

She walked into the kitchen while Erik called the hospital. It really, really sucked that they had been interrupted because she knew that it would have happened, it would have been perfect, they would have finally made love and she’d have been able to tell him how much she loved him, not just as a friend, but as the man who’d meant more to her than anyone else ever had.

Erik came into the kitchen as she took a drink from her bottled water.

“I’ve gotta go. Becky Jones is in labor and Dan is about to have a nervous breakdown.”

Lisa was close friends with Becky and Dan, and she smiled at the picture of the usually mild-mannered and calm Dan losing his cool. She’d seen him do it just from talking about the delivery and how he worried about Becky having to have surgery. “Will you have to do a C-section because of the twins?”

“Not unless something goes wrong, and I’ve got a good feeling about this one.”

“Oh, I’m so glad. That might just help you out with Dan.”

“The only thing going to help Dan is some Valium.”

Now Lisa did laugh, that is until Erik stepped in close and kissed her. It was just a brief press of lips but it was more than enough to kick start her heart.

“I have to go,” he whispered against her lips, “but tomorrow we’ll finish what we started.”

“Oh yeah.” Another kiss and he left.

She couldn’t wait.

So tell me… what happens next? 🙂

Contest- Part 2

January 2, 2008

The winner from last week was Laura J!!! You can find part one here.

What did she have in mind? Oh, a whole lot of things. She just hoped he was willing.

“Well, you know I’ve been interested in Jason for a while.” She was such a liar but at his nod she continued. “I don’t want to go to him inexperienced. He’s got quite the reputation and when I go to him, I don’t want to be a virgin.”

“Why the hell not? If he can’t accept the fact that you’re a virgin and treat you right–”

“No,” she said, cutting him off. “That’s not it. I don’t want to go to him as a virgin because that means we’ll probably only be able to do it once because I’ll be too sore to do it more than that.”

He gave her a look of disbelief.

Lisa shrugged. “That’s what I’ve heard.”

Erik paced back and forth, back and forth, across the living room while she sat anxiously, nervously, on the couch waiting to hear what he had to say, wanting nothing more than to be able to wring her hands to ease some of her tension, or curl her hair around her finger, but then Erik would know she wasn’t as confident about this as she let on. Truth be told, she was scared as hell.

He stopped pacing and looked at her. “Okay.”

Her heart soared. “Okay, you’ll do it?”

He shook his head. “I must be insane, but yes.”

Oh thank God. “Thank you, Erik–”

“For God’s sake don’t thank me, Lis.” He ran a hand through his hair, then dropped it to his side. “How do you want to do this?”

“I want you to show me everything.”

“What do you mean by everything?”

“Touching, tasting, feeling, all the things men and women do in bed.”

“Jesus, do you know what you’re asking?”

Oh yeah, she did. She was asking Erik to pleasure her in every possible way, and while doing so, she hoped that Erik realized that their flirting and sexy banter was more than friendship. They were meant to be together.

* * * * *

Lisa deserved so much more than this. Her first time should be with someone she loved, and with someone who loved her back. Granted, he did love her, but God–sex? Sure he’d thought of her like that before, many times as a matter of fact. What normal red-blooded male wouldn’t want to sink into the warmth of her body and explore each and every dip and curve of her luscious body with his hands, mouth, and tongue. Jesus, just the thought of it had blood pooling in his loins.

“When do you want to start?”

“No time like the present.”

Holy hell. “Now?”

Lisa shrugged. “Why not?”

Why not. Why not? Because damn it, she was his best friend and he didn’t want to fuck that up. It’s not that he didn’t want her–he’d always wanted her, God some days he wanted to do nothing more than bend her over the kitchen table and take her from behind. She drove him crazy. Her scent, and the fact Lisa was naturally sensual made him harder than granite, but sex always changed everything. And this was one time he hoped he was wrong because she was the one sure thing in his life, and he didn’t want to lose her.

“All right.” He held out a hand to her, and she took it easily, trustingly, and he led her to the bedroom hoping like hell he hadn’t just made the biggest mistake of his life.

So tell me… what happens next? Winner of two books(Harlequin Temptation/Blaze or Silhouette Desire/Special Edition) will be drawn in one week, Sunday, December 30th, so get your creative juices flowing and tell me what’s going to happen with Lisa and Erik next. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next.

Let’s Get To The Contest…

December 16, 2007

Okay, I’m going to write a paragraph or two, and you tell me what you think Lisa and Erik are talking about, what you’d like to see happen, or anything else you wish to talk about. Then, I’ll come back and write the next bit. The person whose comments/suggestions I use will receive either a Harlequin Blaze/Temptation or Silhouette Desire/Special Edition book off of my shelf.

So, all you have to do is comment to win!

“You want to what?

“You don’t have to sound so surprised. Is the idea that off-the-wall?” God, she hoped Erik’s answer to that question was no, but the answer to her suggestion was yes. She crossed her fingers behind her back for luck.

He turned to look out the window. “Of course it’s not repulsive, Lisa, but it could change everything.”

“In some ways yes, but in other ways. Besides wasn’t it you that told me just last year when my life did a complete one-eighty not to fear change, but rather embrace it?”

He nodded.

“Sometimes a little change is exactly what a person needs, even they don’t realize it.”

“But this is a completely different situation.”

Lisa shrugged.

He turned and met her gaze.  “Okay, let’s say I agree to this. What’s your plan?”

God, Erik was her best friend, had been since childhood, so why was she so nervous? She sighed. Probably because what she’d just proposed had the potential to destroy that friendship and turn it into something it was never supposed to be, or make it the one thing they both’d been looking for.

So? What did Lisa propose to Erik? What should her plan be to accomplish this? You tell me and you’ll have a chance to win a book… or maybe two.

Let’s hear it… I’m waiting.

The One Where Kate Comes Up For Air

October 2, 2007

Oh, I miss Friends.

So, dear lord, life has been crazy. Yesterday was the first of the month, which meant new releases were out at Whiskey Creek Press and Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. Wheeee! None of my authors had books release this month, so I didn’t have anything extra (thank freakin’ god), but I was still busy.

My father had heart surgery Friday to get a pacemaker. The lead fell out – they had to reopen him and fix it. Sewed him all back up all nice-like, then the lead fell out again. So Monday they had to open him AGAIN and fix it. Woo.

Meanwhile hubby and I thought it would be SO NICE if we fixed up my parents’ bathroom while Dad was in the hospital! Think house built in the 70’s which has NEVER been updated (including nice bright orange carpet – which is now a brown/orange carpet). This means big plumbing issues. BIG. And hubby is not a plumber. So he fixed it all up real nice – and another leak started. It rains in their basement when the shower’s on now. Previously it was apparently only raining in the wall. Not good, but undetectable to the naked eye.

So, it was a crazy, crazy weekend followed by a crazy first two days of the month.

And now I can breathe. And wonder why no one reminded me that I had a contest running! Geez Louise! I’ll have to go back to the post after this and pick a winner! Woot!

And tomorrow I get to see Lori! Yay! She’s on a business trip in Boston, so we’re doing dinner and drinks tomorrow night. I haven’t seen her since the Lori Foster event two years ago! About time for a reunion, I’d say. 🙂

What have you all been up to? Been pretty silent for a while, from what I can tell from not checking. 😛

Contest: Erotic or Just Hot?

September 22, 2007

Hey, all you Great Scotts readers! I’m struggling with a question in my current MS (manuscript, for the non-publishing world), and could use your help. From all the comments on this post, I’ll choose one random person who’ll win a $15 gift certificate to either Amazon or Borders, winner’s choice.

So, what are the rules, you ask? I just need your opinion! I’m going back and forth with my MS as to whether to keep it erotic or lower the explicitness to hot. There are many, many reasons I’m having this conundrum, but regardless of the reasons, I’d like to see your opinion on the two.

1. What is the percentage of books from NY (I only stipulate this because that’s what I’m targeting) you buy that are erotic? Hot romances? Sweet romances?

2. I hear that some readers are embarrassed to buy an erotic romance from the store. Do the covers of erotic romances turn you away (again, not talking Changeling here, think NY), or do you just love the sexy bodies on many of the covers?

3. Do you, after reading erotic romances, find yourself bored with general romance?

4. Do you flip back and forth between erotic and general romances without a problem?

5. Have you NEVER read an erotic romance and never plan to? Any reason why?

6. Any other thoughts about the two that I haven’t asked?

So, for your chance to win a $15 GC to either Amazon or Borders, post your opinions! Winner will be chosen next Friday, September 28.
