Owning his own franchised Mexican restaurant isn’t the dream job Dale Jennings had hoped for. But even though her food is damn near as hot as her sun kissed body, Dale is determined not to let anything stand in the way of his success. Especially not some California girl’s enchiladas.

As her best friend Lina puts it, Samantha Logan needs to get laid. Coming off a bad relationship, Sam is not eager to jump on the commitment bandwagon. The fabulous Ann Aguirre has some contests going on. Go! Get your name entered! You don’t want to miss your chance to win an ARC of Grimspace!

There’s one on Dear Author. They’re giving away 20 advanced reader copies of Grimspace which comes out on February 26th. All you have to do is read the review and comment, and you’re entered into the drawing. How simple is that?

There’s another contest over on Ann’s blog. Here’s the info for that one.

Prize packages

  • Grand Prize: $100 gift card from Barnes and Noble
  • First runner up: $50 gift certificate from Amazon
  • Second runner up: a handcrafted Mexican necklace
  • Third runner up: $25 gift card (or egift card) from Bath & Body Works
  • Fourth runner up: Signed copy of Grimspace

Five winners. Big prizes. What do you have to do to get in on this?

Rules for entry for people with a blog:

  • Step 1: Take the quiz, and then copy the code from MY blog at the top of your post. Grimspace Contest Code. Please don’t use the code that comes from Quiz Soup. It’s rather generic.
  • Step 2: Post your results from the quiz in your blog entry. This can be as simple as typing “I got (blank).” You don’t have to copy the whole description, but you can if you want.
  • Step 3: Add something like “Check out the prizes on Ann’s blog” along with a link here. Publish blog post!
  • Step 4: Leave your link in comments, letting me know you’re done.

For those who don’t have blogs, here’s what you do to enter:

  • Step 1: Take the quiz and post your results in comments.
  • Step 2: Tell at least one other person about the contest.

Feel free to ask any questions in comments. Please note, since the contest prizes are sizable, I do expect you to adhere to the rules. If you don’t, I simply won’t count your entry, so it might be worth your time to double-check. This post will be sticky until Grimspace releases on February 26 and I announce the winners. Anything new I feel like posting will show up beneath this line.

Tuesday, January 29

I’m adding to the post as I said I would. Michele Lee asked if I had any banners. As it happens, I do. So I’m gonna throw them up here. Feel free to snag them and use them as you see fit. Design credit goes to Bettie Sharpe for the first two. I made the third one myself. It’s okay to like hers better. Design is really not my thing.

Moved and Updated My Website!

January 27, 2008

Hola peeps.  Sorry for the disappearing act.  I’ve been working on revisions of a book and also I moved my website to WordPress and redid the theme.  I’ve got a personal blog there as well, so I hope you’ll check it all out and give me some feedback.

I’ll be back to blog as soon as the crazy chaos of my life slows down a bit.

January 16, 2008

I got this email from a friend of mine and OMG it’s so funny I had to share. I laughed out loud more than once and am still snickering as I type. Here you go… enjoy!

Here are six reasons why you should think before you speak – the last one is great!

Have you ever spoken and wished that you could immediately take the words back… or that you could crawl into a hole?

Here are the Testimonials of a few people who did….

I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly, “How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?”

I turned around and walked back out and never went back my husband didn’t say a word… he knew better.

I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls. I was unhappy with the women’s type I had been using. After browsing for several minutes, I was approached by one of the good-looking gentlemen who works at the store. He asked if he could help me.

Without thinking, I looked at him and said, “I think I like playing with mens balls”

My sister and I were at the mall and passed by a store that sold a variety of candy and nuts. As we were looking at the display case, the boy behind the counter asked if we needed any help.

I replied, “No, I’m just looking at your nuts.”

My sister started to laugh hysterically.

The boy grinned, and I turned beet-red and walked away.

To this day, my sister has never let me forget.

While in line at the bank one afternoon, my toddler decided to release some pent-up energy and ran amok. I was finally able to grab hold of her after receiving looks of disgust
and annoyance from other patrons.

I told her that if she did not start behaving “right now” she would be punished.

To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice just as threatening, “If you don’t let me go right now, I will tell Grandma that I saw you kissing Daddy’s pee-pee last night!”

The silence was deafening after this enlightening exchange. Even the tellers stopped what they were doing.

I mustered up the last of my dignity and walked out of the bank with my daughter in tow.

The last thing I heard when the door closed behind me, were screams of laughter.

Have you ever asked your child a question too many times?

My three-year-old son had a lot of problems with potty training and I was on him

One day we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch, in between errands. It was very busy, with a full dining room. While enjoying my taco, I smelled something funny, so of course I checked my seven-month-old daughter, she was clean. Then realized that Danny had not asked to go potty in a while.

I asked him if he needed to go, and he said “No” .

I kept thinking, “Oh Lord, that child has had an accident, and I don’t have any clothes with me.”

Then I said, “Danny, are you SURE you didn’t have an accident?”

“No,” he replied.

I just KNEW that he must have had an accident, because the smell was getting worse.

Soooooo, I asked one more time, “Danny did you have an accident ? This time he jumped up, yanked down his pants, bent over, spread his cheeks and yelled, “SEE MOM, IT’S JUST FARTS!!”

While 30 people nearly choked to death on their tacos laughing, he calmly pulled up his pants and sat down.

An old couple made me feel better, thanking me for the best laugh they’d ever had!

This had most of the state of Michigan laughing for 2 days and a very embarrassed female news anchor who will, in the future, likely think before she speaks.

What happens when you predict snow but don’t get any!

We had a female news anchor that, the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn’t, turned to the weatherman and asked:

“So Bob, where’s that 8 inches you promised me last night?”

Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half the crew did too they were laughing so hard!

Now, didn’t that feel good? Laugh! It’s contagious!

Dim light filtered through the blinds as they entered the bedroom. It was so girly, all pink, lacy, so Lisa. He loved her femininity and at times he had even imagined them in this very situation, well, not exactly this situation, but one where he led her to the bedroom, kissed her, touched her, tasted her, and now he was going to get that chance. Only it was to enhance her sexual experience so she could be perfect in bed for another guy. Oh, the thought of it made his stomach turn.

A new thought popped into his mind and he grinned. What if he made Lisa’s experience so good she didn’t want to be with anyone else but him? The thought had promise, now he had to put it into play.

Without pretense, barely giving her a chance to gasp, he turned and pulled her body flush against his. He just held her there for a minute, staring into her eyes, enjoying the look of surprise he saw there, then slowly he lowered his head until his lips lightly touched hers. He feathered them across hers once, twice, before pressing them more firmly against hers. He swept her lower lip with his tongue, Lisa gasped, and that was all the opening he needed.

He brushed his tongue against hers tentatively, savoring the minty taste of her, then she shyly returned the gesture. That timidity was nearly his undoing, his body was on fire, aroused beyond belief, and all for his best friend. Never, ever had he felt so close to ravishing a woman, ripping off her clothes and taking her against the wall, so totally out of control with just a kiss.

He was driving her crazy. What was up with the hesitancy? She knew he was aroused, she could feel his erection pressing into her belly. She wanted more, she needed more. She wanted him to touch her breasts, kiss her neck, and because he was doing none of those things she wanted to rub herself against him like a cat in heat.

Lord, the man could kiss. When his hands left her back and slid up to cup her face, the tenderness in the gesture, that was exactly why she loved him. She didn’t want Jason, she never did. She only wanted Erik. It had always been Erik and now it was time to show him how she felt.

Lisa leaned in and rubbed her breasts against him, and then Erik’s beeper went off. Damn it!

He pulled back, then pressed a quick kiss to her lips before unclipping the beeper from his belt. “It’s the hospital.”

Of course. He was on call, she should have remembered. “You know where the phone is. I’m going to get some water.”

She walked into the kitchen while Erik called the hospital. It really, really sucked that they had been interrupted because she knew that it would have happened, it would have been perfect, they would have finally made love and she’d have been able to tell him how much she loved him, not just as a friend, but as the man who’d meant more to her than anyone else ever had.

Erik came into the kitchen as she took a drink from her bottled water.

“I’ve gotta go. Becky Jones is in labor and Dan is about to have a nervous breakdown.”

Lisa was close friends with Becky and Dan, and she smiled at the picture of the usually mild-mannered and calm Dan losing his cool. She’d seen him do it just from talking about the delivery and how he worried about Becky having to have surgery. “Will you have to do a C-section because of the twins?”

“Not unless something goes wrong, and I’ve got a good feeling about this one.”

“Oh, I’m so glad. That might just help you out with Dan.”

“The only thing going to help Dan is some Valium.”

Now Lisa did laugh, that is until Erik stepped in close and kissed her. It was just a brief press of lips but it was more than enough to kick start her heart.

“I have to go,” he whispered against her lips, “but tomorrow we’ll finish what we started.”

“Oh yeah.” Another kiss and he left.

She couldn’t wait.

So tell me… what happens next? 🙂

January 7, 2008

I’m sorry everyone for slacking off, but I’m not slacking off, I swear.  It’s work and life.  I will do the contest on Wednesday.  Tomorrow I’ll be at The Bradford Bunch so you can find me there.  Sooooo sorry peeps.

Contest- Part 2

January 2, 2008

The winner from last week was Laura J!!! Email me your snail mail address and preferences as to whether you like Harlequin Temptation, Harlequin Blaze, Silhouette Desire, or Silhouette Special Edition, at Marissa @ (no spaces) and I’ll grab TWO books from my shelf and get them out to you. Thanks for participating!!!  You can find part one here.

What did she have in mind? Oh, a whole lot of things. She just hoped he was willing.

“Well, you know I’ve been interested in Jason for a while.” She was such a liar but at his nod she continued. “I don’t want to go to him inexperienced. He’s got quite the reputation and when I go to him, I don’t want to be a virgin.”

“Why the hell not? If he can’t accept the fact that you’re a virgin and treat you right–”

“No,” she said, cutting him off. “That’s not it. I don’t want to go to him as a virgin because that means we’ll probably only be able to do it once because I’ll be too sore to do it more than that.”

He gave her a look of disbelief.

Lisa shrugged. “That’s what I’ve heard.”

Erik paced back and forth, back and forth, across the living room while she sat anxiously, nervously, on the couch waiting to hear what he had to say, wanting nothing more than to be able to wring her hands to ease some of her tension, or curl her hair around her finger, but then Erik would know she wasn’t as confident about this as she let on. Truth be told, she was scared as hell.

He stopped pacing and looked at her. “Okay.”

Her heart soared. “Okay, you’ll do it?”

He shook his head. “I must be insane, but yes.”

Oh thank God. “Thank you, Erik–”

“For God’s sake don’t thank me, Lis.” He ran a hand through his hair, then dropped it to his side. “How do you want to do this?”

“I want you to show me everything.”

“What do you mean by everything?”

“Touching, tasting, feeling, all the things men and women do in bed.”

“Jesus, do you know what you’re asking?”

Oh yeah, she did. She was asking Erik to pleasure her in every possible way, and while doing so, she hoped that Erik realized that their flirting and sexy banter was more than friendship. They were meant to be together.

* * * * *

Lisa deserved so much more than this. Her first time should be with someone she loved, and with someone who loved her back. Granted, he did love her, but God–sex? Sure he’d thought of her like that before, many times as a matter of fact. What normal red-blooded male wouldn’t want to sink into the warmth of her body and explore each and every dip and curve of her luscious body with his hands, mouth, and tongue. Jesus, just the thought of it had blood pooling in his loins.

“When do you want to start?”

“No time like the present.”

Holy hell. “Now?”

Lisa shrugged. “Why not?”

Why not. Why not? Because damn it, she was his best friend and he didn’t want to fuck that up. It’s not that he didn’t want her–he’d always wanted her, God some days he wanted to do nothing more than bend her over the kitchen table and take her from behind. She drove him crazy. Her scent, and the fact Lisa was naturally sensual made him harder than granite, but sex always changed everything. And this was one time he hoped he was wrong because she was the one sure thing in his life, and he didn’t want to lose her.

“All right.” He held out a hand to her, and she took it easily, trustingly, and he led her to the bedroom hoping like hell he hadn’t just made the biggest mistake of his life.

So tell me… what happens next? Winner of two books(Harlequin Temptation/Blaze or Silhouette Desire/Special Edition) will be drawn in one week, Sunday, December 30th, so get your creative juices flowing and tell me what’s going to happen with Lisa and Erik next. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next.

Changes at Whiskey Creek Press

January 1, 2008

From January Whiskey Creek Press Newsletters:

The Winds of Change

Happy New Year! As we ring in what will hopefully be a great 2008, we can’t help but think back on 2007. We thank all our authors, readers, and staff for making 2007 the best year yet for Whiskey Creek Press as a company! We’ve come a long way since 2003 when we started, and it’s because of all your hard work and readership!

However, as one year comes to end, so starts another one, and it’s time to put the past behind us and look to the future. Whiskey Creek is taking this new year to heart and changing a few things which we hope will better the company. A lot of things have happened which affect both the General and Torrid lines of Whiskey Creek Press, so this month the articles for the General newsletter and the Torrid ones are the same. But don’t forget to check out our two very different spotlights for each if you are one who reads both newsletters! We have a fabulous General Line article by Sue Perkins on writing fantasy, and for the Torrid line Beth Kery delves into her New Year Resolutions and the fears that authors face.

Alrighty, so onto the many changes with which we’re ringing in 2008. First and foremost, our author contracts have changed. Starting with all newly signed contracts, Whiskey Creek is now directly picking up the printer set-up fee for print books. Authors will not be paying a dime to have their books published – instead, the money will be flowing to the author. This is a big change, and one that we hope will benefit all current and future authors who choose to publish with Whiskey Creek Press. The contract has also changed from a two-year term to a three-year term, allowing more time for both WCP and the author to promote the work and for readers to buy it!

And okay, that’s all great, super really, but what do we have for the readers? Well, starting this month all new releases are available in four formats! We’ve added both the LIT and the MOBI formats! This is great for you all, because it gives you more choices in your format. If you have an ereader that prefers LIT, now you can get that format directly without having to convert from HTML! And yup, of course we’re keeping our ever-popular PDF and HTML formats. We are currently working on converting our backlist to eventually offer all four formats for all WCP books, but that’s going to take a lot of time and effort! Look for those formats for older releases in the coming months!

The addition of the MOBI format also means that we’re going to be available on Amazon’s Kindle! Our newer books will be available there first, but again, we hope to offer our whole backlist for the Kindle eventually. We’re trying to get Whiskey Creek books out in as many ways as you want them!

There are just so many things going on at Whiskey Creek Press, this just keeps on going! Are you tired yet? The next big thing, which you’ll be hearing about for the next coming months, is our five year birthday! This is a big deal, as five years in the epublishing world is a huge accomplishment. We will be celebrating the whole month, and yes, that includes when people are off to EPICON too! We’ll keep a few people around to make sure the rest of us stay amused! We’re going to have scavenger hunts, games, special guests, loop chats, night chats, day chats, and prizes, prizes, and MORE PRIZES!

But to participate, you’ll need to be a member of our reader loops! Have you joined yet? You can click here for our Torrid Readers Group, and click here for our General Line Readers Group. And hey – the party’s going to be going on at BOTH GROUPS! And we’ll be giving away some big hints starting in February, so make sure you’re listed before then for all the juicy details!

Here’s wishing you a happy and prosperous new year in everything you do!
